Failure. That was what Che Go Eun’s father called her when she returned to South Korea—an artist defying his traditional expectations of women.
In response, she fed her father's lines and her diary notes into Stable Diffusion(AI image generator), and also retrained the AI to generate dancheong motifs: traditional Korean patterns often absent from Western-focused datasets. Through this process, Che Go seeks to de-Westernize and humanize AI, reinterpreting its generated images as delicate watercolours in an ongoing dialogue between heritage, technology, and identity. And again, Che Go’s watercolors styles were trained to AI in collaboration with Oleksandr Sirous for the viewers to experience translating their emotions into an image.
The resulting patterns were printed on wallpaper “Belief, Love & Failure”, covering the Hangar at BAC ART LAB, a Flag “Belief, Death & Failure” at Cas-Co, a GIF animation “Belief & Failure” at Werktank website.
